The Pub Where Pints Move on Their Own and Something Touched a Man’s Neck

The Pub Where Pints Move on Their Own and Something Touched a Man’s Neck

Charlie Duthie was standing behind the bar at his pub in the Scottish Highlands when a full pint of beer suddenly slid off a table. Nobody was near the glass, and Charlie had a clear view of it.

This happened at the 60 Mile Inn in Bridge of Orchy, a small village surrounded by the Scottish Highlands. Charlie had already experienced some unusual things since taking over the property, but watching a drink move by itself was something else entirely.

And it wasn't just the staff having strange experiences.

The Voices During Renovation

The 60 Mile Inn occupies a former primary school built in 1898. Bridge of Orchy Primary School closed in 2004, and the old building stood empty for years before Charlie bought it in 2020.

He planned to turn the property into accommodation and a welcoming pub for walkers travelling along the West Highland Way. After several years of work, the bar finally opened in May 2026.

The activity had started long before the first customers arrived.

During renovations, workers began hearing what sounded like somebody shouting inside the building. There were only three people working there, and none of them could account for the voice. Charlie initially thought it might have been someone passing outside. The West Highland Way brings walkers through the village, so hearing voices nearby wouldn't normally be surprising.

But the shouting continued, sometimes during winter when the surrounding area was quiet. The workers couldn't find anyone responsible, and they eventually began wondering whether the old school had an occupant they hadn't met.

Once the bar opened, employees started noticing stuff at strange hours.

What Happened at Three in the Morning

One of the barmen lived in staff accommodations beside the pub. After closing, he'd sometimes notice the motion-activated lights switching on around three in the morning, even though nobody was supposed to be inside.

The security cameras began recording unusual things too. One captured what looked like a pale, wispy shape moving across the picture, while others activated when the rooms should have been empty.

There were also footsteps and noises coming from different parts of the property. Staff would hear sounds suggesting someone was moving around, only to find nothing when they checked.

Charlie described footage showing mops shifting across the floor while the pub was locked. Along with the movement, the recordings picked up sounds.

He'd already heard the shouting during renovations and seen the strange camera recordings. Now things were happening while the pub was closed.

The Customer Who Didn't Believe in Ghosts

One customer was discussing ghosts and making it clear that he didn't believe in them. While he was talking, a bag of chips suddenly fell from a display on the wall. The bag had been fastened in place.

Charlie and his employees had also seen glasses falling from shelves. With the moving pint caught on camera, they had begun paying much closer attention to stuff around the bar.

One customer had an encounter that didn't involve anything falling. A man was using the pub's toilet when he felt something stroke the back of his neck. He was frightened because he couldn't account for what had touched him.

By this point, Charlie had started thinking that a poltergeist might be responsible. He didn't believe the presence was trying to hurt anyone, but it was becoming harder and harder to ignore.

He decided to seek help from someone who knew about this kind of stuff.

The Schoolmaster Who Never Left

Psychic medium and shaman Graham MacLauren became involved after hearing about the experiences at the 60 Mile Inn. He wondered whether it might be connected to the property's former life as a school. The rooms that once held classrooms had been transformed into a place where visitors could relax, drink, and spend the evening.

MacLauren suggested that a former schoolmaster might still be attached to the property. Perhaps the renovations had disturbed him, or maybe he simply wasn't happy about what had become of his old school.

Charlie found the idea interesting, especially since the activity had started while the building was being renovated. He wanted MacLauren to spend a night at the inn and attempt to communicate with whoever might be responsible.

The proposed investigation was attracting attention by October 2026, when the pub's strange experiences began making news beyond the Highlands.

Meanwhile, the 60 Mile Inn continued welcoming walkers and visitors, with its growing ghostly reputation giving customers something else to talk about over a pint.
