The Burning Ghost Ship That Keeps Coming Back to Block Island
Late in December 1739, sailors crossing the dark water near Block Island saw a ship on fire. This was not a small glow on the horizon or a lantern flickering through fog; witnesses described what appeared to be a large sailing vessel consumed by flames.
